A beautiful flat stomach

A beautiful flat stomach

For the umpteenth time, you are standing in front of the mirror in that lovely clothes shop, trying on new clothes. And for the umpteenth time you think: “It would suit me so much better if I had a beautiful flat stomach”. Losing weight? You do your best, but it only works in all the places where you feel you don't need it. That big belly, as far as you are concerned, stays put.

Having belly fat removed

In the end, you make up your mind. You want to have your belly fat removed. You browse the internet a little and find two solutions that both look interesting: a tummy tuck or liposuction of the abdomen. But which of the two should you choose? And what does a tummy tuck or liposuction cost?

The plastic surgeon can offer a solution. Together you can decide which treatment will give the desired result. Because that really depends. For those who still have firm skin but only want to get rid of fat that has accumulated around the abdomen, hips and flanks, liposuction is a good solution. It is also the simplest route. After all, the plastic surgeon only removes excess fat from the abdomen. This is a fairly simple procedure that does not take much time and does not leave a large scar. So you recover quickly and can soon return to your normal daily activities.

Liposuction alone is sometimes not enough

There is just one problem: the skin on the abdomen is often no longer so firm. And then liposuction alone is not enough to achieve a good result. As the years go by, the skin slowly loses its natural elasticity. Weight gain and one or more pregnancies make this problem even worse. And in that case, a tummy tuck really is the better solution.

Tummy tuck after pregnancy

In this procedure, the plastic surgeon does two things at once: he removes excess skin and fat, and he tightens the muscles that have been stretched by pregnancy or weight gain. The result is a beautifully flat, firm stomach. There is, however, something involved that you need to take into account when making your choice. For a tummy tuck, the plastic surgeon has to make an incision that leaves a wide scar. Of course, he makes sure this scar lies below the bikini line as much as possible, so that it remains invisible to the outside world.

A combination of a tummy tuck with liposuction

Liposuction and a tummy tuck can be combined to a certain extent. With a tummy tuck, the plastic surgeon may also suggest performing some liposuction to achieve an optimal result. Very extensive liposuction often cannot be combined with a tummy tuck, because great care must be taken to keep the blood supply in this area intact.

Liposuction is not intended for weight loss!

A final point to bear in mind is that neither liposuction nor a tummy tuck is intended for weight loss. They are only intended to improve the contours of the body. If you do want to lose some weight, do this before the operation. If you do it afterwards, it can adversely affect the result of the operation.
