A big nose in a selfie

A big nose in a selfie

“My nose looks so big in my selfies. I’d like a nose job.” Our plastic surgeons hear this more and more often in the consulting room.
Be honest, how often have you taken a selfie with your smartphone lately? And how happy were you with the result you saw? Feel free to be honest, no one is reading over your shoulder. American plastic surgeons are already noticing that they increasingly see people in the consulting room who conclude, on the basis of a selfie, that their nose does not look the way they would like it to. As long as that dissatisfaction is only about their hair, it is easy enough to solve. A quick trip to the hairdresser and Bob’s your uncle.

Nose surgery

But going to the plastic surgeon with your big nose for nose surgery is a bigger step for many. Many people think the plastic surgeon is visited by people with other kinds of wishes. Wrinkles in the face or protruding ears, for example. But going to the plastic surgeon about a big nose because it stands out in a selfie? The average computer user nowadays has enough software to polish such things away and create a nicer avatar, but in real life that changes nothing.

The selfie generation

It is understandable that it is above all the selfie generation that has recently been finding its way to the plastic surgeon’s consulting room so readily. But what is striking is the complaint these people come with. More often than any other part of the face, it is about a big nose. An experienced plastic surgeon will then always say to such a person: “Do realise that the image of your face you see in a selfie like that does not necessarily give a realistic picture of your face”. By this he certainly does not mean that he is not taking your complaint seriously, because the size and shape of the nose are indeed largely decisive for how someone looks. But a photo like that is taken quickly and not always very carefully. And nose surgery – precisely because the nose is so decisive for your face – is a procedure to think carefully about.

Nose surgery costs

Together with you, the plastic surgeon can make a realistic assessment of whether or not nose surgery makes sense for you. If it does, nose surgery can give you a nose that suits your face much better. You will also be informed straight away about the nose correction costs. There is a difference in cost between a nose tip correction, a minor nose correction and a full nose correction.

Recovery after nose surgery

The great thing about nose surgery at Boerhaave Clinic is that the plastic surgeon works from the inside, that is, inside your nose. So you will have no scars on the outside. You do, however, need to take the recovery after nose surgery into account, and the fact that it takes a few weeks for the swelling and any bruising caused by the procedure to subside. So plan nose surgery at a time that suits you best – just before a holiday, for example.
