A question often heard in the plastic surgeon's consulting room is: “What does that cost, doctor?”. An understandable question too, because cosmetic surgery for aesthetic purposes, and therefore also breast augmentation, is generally not covered by health insurers. The client therefore pays for this procedure themselves. It sometimes happens that, after the consultation with the plastic surgeon, someone postpones the appointment for the actual treatment by a few months so that they can save up for it first.
Sometimes people even decide to skip a holiday to make the treatment possible. People attach great importance to their appearance, so this decision is not so strange. We often even hear that people genuinely feel limited in their social life by a physical feature that bothers them, such as protruding ears, breasts that are very large in proportion to the rest of the body, or a crooked or large nose.
Women in whom breast development has failed to occur at all can also experience serious problems taking part in social life, for example visiting a sauna or the beach. Unjustified at heart, of course – every human body is different and hardly any human body is perfect – but very understandable all the same. The curve of the bust is definitely an aspect of femininity. So it is no wonder that women whose breasts remain completely flat even after the growth phase in puberty can find this enormously difficult.
There is good news especially for these women. A change in legislation has broadened the options for reimbursement of breast procedures. In practice, this means that breast augmentation can now also be reimbursed from basic health insurance if the woman has a flat chest. The threshold for this is a breast plate (glandular breast tissue) of less than one centimetre. A radiologist must establish that the breast plate is less than 1 cm, and you will probably need a referral from your GP. So ask about this if you fall into this category and are visiting the plastic surgeon to discuss the options for breast augmentation. The plastic surgeon can then submit a reimbursement request to your health insurer.
A point of attention for women with a flat chest, however, is that the space available to achieve a breast augmentation is limited. The thickness of the skin also plays a role here. Experience shows that the Natrelle FX 510 breast implant is an ideal solution for these women – that is, with a flat chest and thin skin.
