Facelift treatments rising in popularity

The number of facelift treatments performed rose in popularity over the past year. This is shown by the annual survey of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). After dropping out of the top 5, the facelift appears to be back.
Fascination with the possibilities of the Facelift
Patients seem to be fascinated by the possibilities available to make the face just that little bit more refined. You can also see this in the number of mobile apps and filters you can use to make your face look just a little friendlier or slimmer in a photo. The ASPS therefore does not find it strange that the facelift has returned to the top 5 most performed treatments in plastic surgery.
Other facial treatments in the top 5
As well as the Facelift (5th place, with a rise of 4% compared with 2015), eyelid corrections and nose corrections are also in the top 5 most performed treatments. The number of eyelid and nose corrections performed both rose by 2% in 2016.
Breast augmentation and liposuction
As in previous years, the top 5 most performed treatments is dominated by breast augmentations and liposuction. These two treatments rose by 4 and 6 per cent respectively compared with the previous year. With liposuction, patients are increasingly asking for fat from, for example, the stomach area to be placed back into the face, buttocks or breasts, also known as lipofilling. At Boerhaave, too, we are receiving this request more often than in 2015.
Comparable to the Netherlands
Although the results of the ASPS survey are based on the American market, we can compare this trend with the trends in the Netherlands. In recent years we have seen that the trends and increases do not correspond entirely, but largely correspond, with the trends and increases in America.
