Liposuction for a beautiful stomach

Of all cosmetic procedures, liposuction remains the most popular, and that is not so surprising. Many people will recognise the picture of excess body fat concentrating mainly around the stomach area. This also immediately explains why liposuction is so popular especially on the eve of summer. In the colder months of the year, a little tummy is easy to hide with loose-fitting clothing. But anyone who wants to walk along the beach in swimming trunks or a bikini in summer expects more of his or her body and wants that tummy gone.

Tumescent liposuction for a beautiful stomach

Now, it is important to look around carefully before you make a decision about liposuction or liposculpture, because make no mistake: not all liposuction is the same. You will not be keen on an extensive surgical procedure for a firm stomach. Certainly not if you know that the recovery time is long, that your stomach area will be badly bruised for some time and that you will have to endure a fair amount of post-operative pain. Yet this is what traditional liposuction does to your body, not to mention the permanently visible scars. Remarkably, despite this, there are still a great many plastic surgeons who use this technique.
Fortunately, there is a new and much gentler alternative: tumescent liposuction. This innovative technique is also known as liposculpture, and that name has been very aptly chosen. It is indeed almost a form of sculpture.

Suctioning away fat

In tumescent liposuction, a fat-dissolving tumescent fluid is first injected through a small cannula. This fluid dissolves the fat cells, after which they can be suctioned away with a fine cannula.
Unlike traditional liposuction, the procedure is much more precise and is carried out with much smaller instruments. The instrument used to suction the fat away from the abdominal area is only two to three millimetres in diameter. After a few weeks, hardly any scar can be seen. Moreover, the movements made with this instrument – to suction the fat away – are much more subtle than the coarse movements made with traditional instruments.

Liposuction of the double chin and thighs

The consequence is easy to guess: the coarser the movements, the more serious the damage to your body. So: the worse the bruising and the longer and more painful the recovery period. The pain you feel after liposculpture is usually no worse than muscle ache after a few hours of strenuous exercise. But note: this can vary from person to person. As well as liposuction of the stomach, this tumescent liposuction is also excellently suited to all other areas, such as liposuction of the double chin or liposuction of the thighs.

Recovery after liposuction

Most patients are able to walk out of the treatment room straight after the procedure. They can often return to work within a week. An additional advantage of the technique used is that it stimulates the collagen-producing substances in the skin, making your skin firmer and smoother to the touch.
