What types of facelifts are there?
Discover the different types of facelifts, from the S-lift to the combined neck and facelift, and what you can expect from each procedure.

Visiting the plastic surgeon together: we see it more and more often here at Boerhaave Clinic: going to the plastic surgeon together with your partner, sister, sister-in-law or brother.
Everyone who is active on social media does their best to present themselves as attractively as possible. But when your partner says: “Delete that photo, I look old with that double chin”, you just think: “I get that feeling too when I look at my own photos.”. Or you discuss with your sister your long-held wish to have a breast augmentation, and it turns out she cherishes the same wish. Or you share with your brother the same, too-large nasal tip that has bothered you both for years.
That moment can then be an opening to visit the plastic surgeon together. And that is exactly how it happens. The number of couples walking into the clinic hand in hand or side by side to both undergo a treatment is growing.
So which plastic surgery procedures do these couples come to the plastic surgery clinic for? Not surprisingly, of course, that turns out to depend quite a lot on age.
Among people in their twenties, nose correction is popular. We see sisters and brothers here more often than couples; for couples it is more about Botox and other fillers. The woman takes the lead, and her partner then says: “I’ll have a bit too.”.
Among people in their thirties, the main reason for visiting the plastic surgeon is the change in the woman’s body as a result of pregnancy (or pregnancies), for a breast lift, tummy tuck, Mommy makeover and liposuction. The man then follows, also for liposuction, to get a firm stomach again.
Having children changes the shape of your body, and especially your breasts. Talking about this with your sister can be an opening to visit the plastic surgeon together and find out what the options are.
People in their forties want to freshen up. They are not ready for a facelift yet, but an eyelid correction, a treatment with fillers and in some cases an S-lift are becoming increasingly popular in this age group.
That facelift, whether or not combined with a neck lift, then follows naturally for people in their fifties or sixties. By undergoing this procedure together, partners see it as a reward for the life they have lived together over the past decades. They can also support each other during the recovery period.
Of course, none of this changes the fact that plastic surgery always remains an individual decision. The plastic surgeon will also always discuss with each individual patient their wishes and how feasible they are.
