Plastic surgery procedures are popular, but how do you know whether a clinic can guarantee your safety? First of all, safety must always come first. At Boerhaave, the emphasis is on safe and professional treatment by qualified specialists. All doctors are certified and registered in the BIG register, and the clinic meets strict quality standards such as ISO-9001 and the ZKN quality mark.
This stands in contrast to stories in the news about practices abroad, where prices are often lower but this can come at the expense of safety and aftercare. As a result, complications occur more often, and in some cases there is not even adequate medical support available when something goes wrong. In the Netherlands, every plastic surgeon must be certified and registered in the BIG register. Boerhaave naturally meets that standard.
Our professional approach rests on three verifiable pillars of quality. We work exclusively with experienced and registered professionals (BIG* and MSRC** registered), following a certified way of working (ISO-9001:2008 and the ZKN quality mark), in a high-quality medical facility (thanks to its special cleanroom, the operating theatre meets the highest sterility standard). These pillars of quality underpin our guarantee for your safety. This allows us to minimise risks and to respond well and quickly to unforeseen complications.
At Boerhaave you can always count on high-quality care and aftercare, with attention to your well-being throughout the entire process. This includes thorough preparation, during which you are fully informed about the procedure, the possible risks and the recovery process. In addition, a specialist is always available to answer questions, both before and after the procedure.
What does this process look like?
Preparation
The process starts with a consultation in which you discuss your wishes and expectations with a plastic surgeon. Based on their knowledge and expertise, our medical specialists will always give you honest advice on whether what you have in mind is possible or not. A personal treatment plan is then drawn up on that basis. After a consultation, one of our consultants will call you; this gives you the opportunity to ask any further questions or, if you would like to come in again, to schedule an appointment. If you want to book a treatment, you will receive clear instructions on how to prepare for the procedure.
The day of the treatment
On the day of the treatment, you will be welcomed at reception and shown to the waiting area. The receptionist will give you two forms to fill in. One of these forms is the consent form. Among other things, it states that you are aware of the possible risks of the treatment you are undergoing. If you want to be well prepared, you can read it through in advance. The second form is a health questionnaire. To prepare you for your treatment as well as possible, our plastic surgeons ask you to follow the guidelines below (Treatment guidelines PDF).
If your procedure takes place under general anaesthesia, you will also have a conversation with the anaesthetist. They will go through the questionnaire you filled in and discuss the anaesthesia with you. The anaesthetist will then take you to the operating room, where you will be put to sleep.
Aftercare
After the treatment, aftercare is a crucial part of recovery. Immediately after the procedure, you will receive instructions about aftercare and the recovery process. In the first week after the procedure, you will come back for a check-up with a specialist. During this check-up, the specialist assesses the healing process, answers any questions and adjusts the aftercare if necessary. You will also receive advice on how best to look after yourself to promote optimal recovery.
Check-up after 3 months
Three months after the procedure, another check-up with a plastic surgeon is scheduled. This is an important moment to evaluate the final result of the treatment and to discuss whether it meets your expectations. Any remaining questions or concerns can be discussed during this check-up, so that you can be sure you have achieved the desired result.
Safety in the Netherlands comes first, which is why it is important to choose a clinic that is transparent about its procedures, employs experienced specialists and meets the highest medical standards. At Boerhaave you are assured of all of these, so that you can take the step towards a cosmetic procedure with peace of mind. Would you like more information about what we can do for you?
