About a buttock lift
| Aging or significant weight loss can cause the buttocks to sag. During a butt lift, excess skin is removed through an incision above the buttocks, eliminating "sagging buttocks" and making the buttocks appear firmer and more toned again. |
- A buttock lift is available from €3,900. During a free, no-obligation consultation, our plastic surgeon discusses and assesses which procedure suits you best, including a personal cost estimate.
- Before the operation, the surgeon marks out the treatment zones. During the operation, the surgeon removes the excess skin and lifts the buttocks. To remove the excess skin tissue, the plastic surgeon will make an incision above your buttocks. The operation takes place under general anaesthesia. The incision is stitched. After stitching, a support bandage is applied over the buttocks.
- The recovery time is on average 2 to 3 weeks. During the first days, the buttocks are painful and tight, and you may experience muscle pain.
- At Boerhaave, buttock lifts are performed by experienced plastic surgeons with an eye for safety, quality and a natural result. You can count on personal guidance and extensive aftercare, so that you know where you stand throughout the entire treatment process.
Here's how the treatment works
Here you will find all the important information about this treatment, from the consultation and the treatment itself to follow-up care, the results, and potential risks.
Plastic Surgeon
During your initial consultation, which always takes place with the plastic surgeon who will be treating you, you’ll discuss the medical details and your expectations regarding the buttock lift. Afterward, photos will be taken, and the plastic surgeon will examine your buttocks. In front of the mirror, you’ll have the opportunity to express your wishes, and the surgeon will explain whether your expectations can be met. In addition, the pros and cons, possible complications, and any risks will be discussed with you. This will allow you to make a well-informed decision.
The consultation will take about 45 minutes in total.
Consultant
Following this, you’ll have a meeting with your consultant. You’ll be informed about the general procedures that need to be arranged regarding the surgery. Would you like to read more about your first consultation? Read more here.A butt lift is always performed under general anesthesia and takes about an hour. The anesthetic is administered through a thin tube in your arm.
The anesthesiologist and his staff will monitor your pulse, heart rate, and breathing throughout the entire procedure.
To remove the excess skin tissue, the plastic surgeon will make an incision above your buttocks. As a result, the scar will be hidden within the bikini line. After the incision is sutured, a support bandage will be applied over the buttocks.
Immediately after the procedure, you will be taken to the recovery room, where your blood pressure and heart rate, among other things, will be monitored. You will remain there for about half an hour before being transferred to the outpatient unit, where you will spend the night. You may not go home until the next morning, and only under supervision.
In the days following the surgery, your buttocks will feel sore, and you may experience mild swelling around the treated area. The surrounding skin will feel tight and taut as it adjusts to its new shape. You may also experience muscle soreness.
As with any surgical procedure, your body needs time to recover. The treated area will initially be bruised, tender, and swollen. The scars may also appear red and raised immediately after the procedure. Don’t be alarmed by this—it’s a natural reaction of the body.
Scar Cream
During your first follow-up visit, you’ll be given a scar care cream to take home. Once the wound has closed and the scabs have fallen off, you can start applying the scar cream. By applying this to the closed wound twice a day, you’ll increase the chances of a smooth healing process. The results of a butt lift are usually long-lasting, but they don’t become visible until several months later. As the skin and muscle tissue continue to sag, a follow-up procedure may be necessary.
It is important to realize that any surgical procedure can involve risks and complications. Plastic surgery is generally performed on healthy individuals, and the risks and likelihood of complications are low.
In addition, you can help minimize certain risks by carefully following the instructions you have been given.
Possible complications may include:
- Hematoma (a collection of blood under the skin that requires drainage)
- Adverse reaction to the anesthesia
- Postoperative bleeding
- Infection
- Changes in sensation
- Permanent scarring
- Damage to underlying structures
- Unsatisfactory aesthetic result.
Smoking
Patients who smoke or use tobacco or nicotine products at the time of surgery are at greater risk of complications, such as skin necrosis and impaired wound healing. Furthermore, smoking can have a negative effect on anesthesia and may result in an increased risk of bleeding. People exposed to secondhand smoke may also be at increased risk for similar complications. People who are not exposed to tobacco smoke or nicotine-containing products have a significantly lower risk of such complications.
