Dr. J. Zguricas has been registered as a plastic surgeon since 2003. From 1993 to 2003, she was a member of the Clinical Scientific Research School (KWO) at Erasmus University. Within the KWO, a select group of young doctors was trained to become clinical specialists while also conducting cutting-edge scientific research. In 1997, she defended her dissertation on the genetic basis of congenital hand abnormalities. Her research team collaborated with scientists from institutions including the prestigious Harvard University. Together, they discovered the location of the first human gene involved in the development of the human hand.
After earning her PhD, she completed her residency in General Surgery at St. Clara Hospital in Rotterdam. She then completed her fellowship in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam.
Dr. Zguricas worked as a staff member at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam from 2003 to 2005. In 2005, she established a new plastic surgery practice at LangeLand Hospital in Zoetermeer, where she continues to work today. From the start of her career as a plastic surgeon, she has focused extensively on breast surgery—both aesthetic and reconstructive. “Breasts are derived from sweat glands: not exactly a glorious beginning. During puberty, most ugly ducklings turn into swans—but by no means everyone. How a breast develops depends on both genetic and environmental factors. No two breasts are alike. In addition to the objective characteristics of a breast—shape, volume, and proportions—one’s perception of one’s own body also plays an important role. Both the objective appearance and the subjective perception of our breasts change over time.”
"During the initial consultation with my patients, I listen carefully to their wishes and medical history. Then we go over the options together. I believe it’s important to thoroughly prepare my patients for their surgery and post-operative care. Surgery is always a nerve-wracking experience and requires a tremendous commitment from both the patients and their loved ones. Only when we’re both satisfied with the treatment plan do we move forward. This way, the patient and I can work as a team to achieve the best possible results. If my patients are happy, so am I.”
